(11/19/12) Richard G. Delicato, 83, of Woodlund Avenue, Westerly, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Sunday evening, November 18, 2012 at the Westerly Hospital. He was pre-deceased by his loving wife, Ann M. (Tarantino) Delicato in 1990. He is survived by three daughters, Ann M. Delicato of Westerly, Helen A. Algier of Westerly and Barbara M. Jackson of Westerly, six grandchildren, Rick, Tom, Jeff, Marrecca, Molly and Ashlyn, three great-grandchildren, Jakob, Blake and Emma, and his sister, Rita Pendola of Westerly. Mr. Delicato was born in Westerly on November 26, 1928, the son of the late George and Angelina (Fiore) Delicato. He served our country proudly in the United States Army in the Korean War. For over 30 years, Richard worked as an electronics technician for the Naval Underwater Systems Center in New London, CT. He was a member of St. Clare Church of Westerly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 9:00 am at St. Clare Church, 62 Crandall Avenue, Misquamicut, RI 02891. There will be no procession from the funeral home. There are no calling hours. Burial will take place at St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly. (11/20/12) Robert E. Jacobson, 70, of Jacobson Trail, Ashaway, passed away on Tuesday morning, November 20, 2012 at the Westerly Hospital. He is survived by his wife of over 43 years, Marsha L. (Olson) Jacobson of Ashaway, his daughter, Kirsten of Griswold, CT and his daughter, Erica of Kirksville, MO, and his brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Pat Jacobson of Ashaway. Mr. Jacobson was born in Pawcatuck on April 4, 1942, the son of the late E. Eric and Marion L. (Beal) Jacobson. Robert served our country proudly in the United States Marine Corps. He was an active asset for the rebels at the Bay of Pigs Invasion in 1961. After military life, he went on to become a Connecticut State Trooper and a Chemical worker for the Dow Chemical Company in CT. His latest assignment was security at Foxwoods Resort Casino. Donald "Bud" I Gray - , RI

(11/20/12) “Bud”, Donald I. Gray, husband of Joyce E. (Smith) Gray passed away peacefully on Monday November 20th at home surrounded by his family. He was 85. He was born in East Providence, a son of the late Thomas A. and Beatrice A. (Harrington) Gray. During WWII, Bud served in the US Navy as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate 2nd Class. For many years Bud had worked as a salesman with Providence Paper Company and later, Acme Visible Records. He was the owner of Creative Office Systems in New Canaan, CT. When he moved to Narragansett, RI, he co-owned a consignment shop in Charlestown and sold commercial real estate for H.D. Randall. He was a member of the Wakefield Rotary and was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow award, one of Rotary’s highest awards for dedicated service. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends who remember him best for his quick wit and sharp sense of humor. Besides his wife Joyce of 63 years, Bud is survived by his son Donald I. Gray, Jr. and his wife Leslie of St. Cloud, FL; his daughters Cheryl A. Boyd and her husband Rick of Narragansett, RI; Pamela J. Emma of Chicopee, MA and Heather Gray-Merrill and her husband John of Danbury, CT; his brother Dick Gray of Florida and nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Thomas A. Gray, Jr., Barbara Hessel, Robert Gray, and Ginny Sittinger. The Burial will be private at the request of the family. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. A service will be held at the Peace Dale Congregational Church on Monday November 26th at 10:00AM. (11/24/12) Oland C. Moore, 75, of Mohegan Trail, Westerly, passed away on Tuesday evening, November 20, 2012 at the Westerly Hospital. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Nancy A. (Azzinaro) Moore in 1992 and his son, Mark S. Moore in 1994, and his sisters, Nilene Webb and Judy Spaulding. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Brian S. and Michelle Moore of Westerly, his son, Olen M. Moore of Westerly, his grandchildren, Cori R. Moore of Westerly, Courtnee B. Moore of Norwich, Brandon S. Moore of Westerly and Mark E. Moore of Westerly, his great-grandchildren, Ella Logan of Westerly and Calee Mitchell of Norwich, his brothers and sisters, Dewey Moore, Ailene Asbury, Peggy Rollins, Benny Moore, Elizabeth Murphy, Nora Bacon, Douglas Moore and Ira Moore and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Moore was born in Kermit, WV on April 8, 1937, the son of the late Benjamin and Thelma (Stepp) Moore. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy. For many years, Oland was a supervisor at Electric Boat of Groton. He spent many years coaching in the Westerly Men’s Softball League. Oland was a lifetime member of the Westerly Lodge of Elks and served on the Westerly Recreation Board. He was an avid gardener and a New England Sports Enthusiast. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High Street, Westerly. There will be no procession from the funeral home. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of Olinto C. “Tony” of Coventry and the late Mary M. (Colgan) Baglini. She previously lived in North Providence for 21 years and West Warwick for 40 years before moving to Richmond in 2007. She was a graduate of North Providence High School, Class of 1963. She worked as a customer service representative for several companies retiring from Centrex Distributors in 2001. Besides her husband and father, she is survived by a son, Thomas E. Phelps of Derry, NH; two daughters: Stacy L. Wotherspoon of Richmond, with whom she lived with and Muriel A. Kilmartin of Winter Garden, FL and ten grandchildren: Kevin, Reilly, Sean, Brine, Rogan, Cooper, Taylor, Devin, Shaylee, Maddox; two brothers Robert and John Baglini. She was the sister of the late Thomas E. Baglini. (12/19/12) Vania Maria (Cavalcanti) Richardson, 67, of Seawinds Terrace, Westerly, passed away on Tuesday morning, December 18, 2012 at her home. She is survived by her husband, Willoughby F. Richardson III of Westerly; their son Scott Richardson and his wife Elizabeth and their two children of Munich, Germany; their daughter Danielle Woods and her husband John of Raynham, MA and their two children; her mother Heiette and brother Paul Cavalcanti of Miami, FL. Mrs. Richardson was born in Campo Grande, Brazil on July 19, 1945, the daughter of Heiette de Menezes and the late Paulo Cavalcanti. Vania spent years as a homemaker and working in various retail positions, including The Visitor’s Pavilion in Frankfurt, Germany; Newport Fabrics in Westerly; and Filene’s in Waterford, CT. She enjoyed tennis, golfing, gardening, cooking, sewing and quilting; as well as spending time with her grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 10:00 am at St. Pius X Church, 44 Elm Street, Westerly. There will be no procession from the funeral home. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Warren M. and Phoebe A. (Babbitt) Boulester. Mrs. Zanecchia was a bookkeeper for The Industrial National Bank for many years. She was a member of the RI Mineral Hunters, Inc., Eastern Federation, North Kingstown Senior Association, URI Master Gardeners (Hall of Famer), and The Ladies Auxiliary “Honeybee” for the Navy Seabee Veterans. Besides her devoted husband, she is survived by her loving niece Martha L Fisher of Coventry and her nephew Bruce W. Boulester of Mankato, MN, many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, her step daughter Linda Smith and husband, Neil Smith, of The Woodlands, TX, two granddaughters and six great-grandchildren. (12/20/12) Thomas Harney, Sr., 87, of Kersey Rd. in Peace Dale, passed away Thursday, December 20th in the South County Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Virginia (DiBiasio) Harney. They celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in June. Born in Shannock, a son of the late William and Mary (Davis) Harney, Thomas was a lifelong resident of the South County area. During World War II, Mr. Harney served in the US Navy. For over 30 years, Mr. Harney was a truck driver for South County Sand and Gravel, driving mostly cement mixers. He was a volunteer of the Peace Dale Fire Department and a member of the former South Kingstown Police Reserves. He was an avid woodworker and loved to go camping. Besides his wife Virginia, Thomas is survived by two sons; Thomas Harney, Jr. and his wife Cynthia of Peace Dale, William Harney and his fiancé Catherine of Charlestown, one daughter; Virginia Harney of Peace Dale, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Mary Nigro, Ella Palmer and Mildred Mosena. (12/28/12) O’Neill, Leo M., 81, of Lenox Court, North Kingstown, passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at Kent Hospital. He was the husband of the late Susan T. (Philips) O’Neill. Born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of the late Patrick and Loretta (Clancy) O’Neill. Mr. O’Neill was a Korean War veteran. He worked as an Aerospace Engineer for many years before retiring. He leaves no immediate survivors. A committal service was held Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at the O’Neill family plot in Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn, New York.

(12/28/12) Walter Gilbert Gasner, M.D., 100, of Beach Ave, Block Island, died at home on Wednesday, December 18, 2012 surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Shirley (Friedman) Gasner. They celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary this past January. Born in New York City on May 6, 1921, a son of the late Charles and Gussie (Litcoff) Gasner. Dr. Gasner was chief of dermatology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine from 1955-1974 when he retired. He was a member of the Royal Air Force prior to joining the United States Army Air Corps in 1938. He was a World War II veteran serving as a second lieutenant and continued his service with the Air Force Reserves retiring as a Lt. Colonel in 1974. He was a member of the Post #36 Amber Legion B.I. and a fellow of the American Academy of Physicians. He is survived by two daughters, Jane Elizabeth Rosman of Andover, MA and Mary Ellen Kane of England; two sons, Douglas Brian Gasner and John Bruce Gasner, both of Block Island; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. (12/28/12) Cunningham, Ann (Chittenden), 76, of Block Island, passed away Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 at Westerly Hospital. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Fayette and Helen (Dickinson) Chittenden. She was a frequent visitor of Block Island since the 1950’s until moving there full time in 1998. Ann was a senior scientist at Pfizer Pharmaceutical Company in Groton, CT for 16 years before retiring in 1998. She was a former commissioner of the Block Island Water Department and a member of the Lunch Bunch/Soup Group. She is survived by a daughter, Lynne P. Cunningham of Block Island; two sons, Paul Cunningham of Block Island and Edward Cunningham of South Kingstown; a sister, Jane Hopkins of Naples, FL.; and two grandchildren. (01/01/13) Richard F. Hull, 61, of Rolens Dr. in Kingston, passed away Tuesday January 1st at his home. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Joseph and Sheila (Ponting) Hull. Richard moved to South County in the 1980’s from Providence. For over 20 years, Richard worked for the State of Rhode Island Division of Taxation before working in the Turnkey Providence Post Office for over 20 years, retiring in the early 2000’s. Richard is survived by his brother Terrance Hull and his wife Christine of Narragansett; his sister Kathleen Mendes and her husband Joseph of Memphis, TN; and sister Barbara Barnes and her husband John of Frankfort, KY. He was the brother of the late Vincent Hull. Richard also left one nephew, Brandon and three loving nieces, Tamara, Courtney and Emmaleigh. Services will be announced at a later date. (01/03/13) Gloria Ann (Hunold) Jobin, 82, of Wakefield, Rhode Island, died Thursday, January 3, 2013 at South County Hospital. She was the devoted wife of the late Alvin H. Jobin of Wakefield, Rhode Island. Born in Warwick, Rhode Island on November 23, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Alice (Legg) Hunold. In addition to being a devoted wife, mother & grandmother, Gloria retired from the East Greenwich School Department after many years of service as a teacher assistant and front office secretary. Prior to that she worked for several years as office secretary for the Greenwich Club. Most recently, Gloria worked for 20 years as a part-time employee of Fiore Realty/Village at Wordens Pond in Wakefield. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Wakefield Rhode Island, and previous member of Our Lady of Mercy Parish in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. She was actively involved in both parish families as a former PTA president of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School, Eucharistic minister at St. Romuald Catholic Chapel in Matunuck, and volunteer on many parish committees. Gloria was a volunteer for 24 years at South County Hospital. Gloria was very passionate about the theatre arts. She was a long-time member of the Academy Players in East Greenwich, performing in numerous productions, as well as theatre direction and production. She also performed on stage and in after show cabaret for many seasons at Theatre-by-the-Sea in Matunuck. Besides her late husband, Gloria leaves behind three loving daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Carl Sjogren, of North Kingstown, Gail and Jeffrey Gimborys of West Olive, Michigan and Donna and Stephen Dyer of East Greenwich; two adoring grandchildren, Mason Mitchell of West Olive, Michigan and Emma Dyer of East Greenwich; and four beautiful step-grand daughters, Andrea Sjogren of Mebane, North Carolina, Hadley and Lydia Gimborys of West Olive, Michigan, and the late Erica (Sjogren) Thoburn of Greensboro, North Carolina. She was the sister of the late Ernest, George, Robert and Donald Hunold. She was also the sister of Carol Hughes, Sharon Thibodeau, and Deborah Reilly of Florida. A celebration of life mass will be held at St. Romuald Catholic Chapel, 75 Atlantic Ave. Matunuck on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 10:00AM . (01/06/13) LAWTON, Joseph Pike, Jr. “Jeph”, NKFD (Ret.), 70, of North Kingstown and Block Island, died unexpectedly on Friday, January 4, 2013 at home. He was the husband of Hollie (Ross) Lawton for 35 years and 361 days. Born in Providence, a son of the late Joseph Pike Lawton, Sr. and Dorothy (Briggs) Lawton. He was a lifelong resident of North Kingstown and a recent part-time resident of Block Island. Jeph was a retired North Kingstown firefighter, a carpenter and had worked at Standish-Johnson Outdoor Advertising. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War, was a lifelong member of the East Greenwich Yacht Club, where he served two terms as Commodore and a member of the East Greenwich Veteran Fireman’s Association. An avid boater and fisherman, Jeph had been active in the RI Tuna Tournament in Galilee for seemingly forever. Upon meeting Jeph, one might think he was on the grumpier side. However, those who knew him well know that he was a candy bar – crunchy on the outside but sweet and gooey on the inside. He was the first on the scene to lend a hand to a friend in need, the ‘go to guy’ for all things fixable and an adoring husband, brother and uncle. Besides his wife, he is survived by a brother, John C. Lawton of Weare, NH; a nephew, Joshua B. Lawton of Warwick and two nieces, Jessica Lawton Beal of Albany, NY and Sarah Lawton of Pittsfield, NH. He was the brother of the late Kim Briggs Lawton. (01/10/13) Richmond - Herbert W. Swain, age 87, of Gardiner Road died Monday, January 7, 2013 at Shady Acres Nursing Home in Exeter. He was the beloved husband of Audrey M. (Rogers) Swain with whom he celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on June 16, 2012. Born in Edgewater, NJ, the son of the late Bertrum and Ethel (Bolton) Swain, he lived in Warwick for 38 years before moving to Richmond in 1999. He served in the United States Army during World War II. As a member of Teamsters Union Local 251 he was employed as a driver salesman for Gorman Nissan Bakery retiring in 1985. He was a stamp collector and a member of the Universal Ship Cancellation Society and its Nathan Hale Chapter of Connecticut and of the American Society of Polar Philatelists. He was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan. Besides his wife he is survived by his two sons: Keith W. Swain and his wife Pamela of Warwick and Kevin W. Swain of Warwick and his four grandchildren: Stephanie, Cameron, Andrew and Daniel Swain. He was the father of the late Cheryl E. (01/05/13) Roy W. Barber, Jr., 75, of Wakefield, died January 5th from complications due to diabetes. He was the son of the late Roy and Frances (Eddy) Barber. Born in Peace Dale, he was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the Air Force and a retired welder from the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union local 777, New London, CT. Prior to that he, was employed by Electric Boat’s General Dynamics Division. Roy was best known for his enthusiasm for cars, especially auto body and engine repair. He was passionate in his interest of horticulture and landscape design. In earlier years, he was recognized for his weight training and body building at the Neighborhood Guild in Peace Dale. He is survived by his daughters; Tracey Barber and Christine Gould both of South County and Melissa Couden of California; his son Kevin Barber of North Kingstown and four granddaughters. He was predeceased by his sister Norma Culligan. Burial with Full Military Honors will be held on Wednesday January 16th at 10:00AM in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Rt. 2, Exeter. Visiting Hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Home and Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904. (01/12/13) North Kingstown - Henry L. Johnson, age 74, of Greenmeadow Circle died Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence. He was the beloved husband of Mary (Hynes) Johnson with whom he celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on February 28, 2012. Born in Owensboro, KY, a son of the late Henry H. and Hazel (Cameron) Johnson, he served in the United States Navy as a Seabee before retiring after 21 years of duty. After his retirement from the Navy he worked as a driver for North American Van Lines, as a rigger for the Director Shipyard and as a guard for Levington’s Security. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 42. Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters: Deborah Thompson and her husband Mark of West Warwick, Mary Johnson of North Kingstown and Cheryl Florio of West Warwick; three sons: William Johnson and his wife Beth of North Kingstown, Henry Johnson and his wife Holly of North Kingstown and Dale Johnson and his wife Tanya of Cranston; twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral from Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick on Tuesday at 8:30 AM followed by a committal service and military honors at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter at 9:30AM.
